THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO CONTACTED ME. I NOW HAVE WHAT I NEED SO WON’T BE ACCEPTING ANY MORE GUEST POSTS AT THIS STAGE.
I’m going on holiday!
Yeah, yeah, I know…my whole life is a holiday (or so my family and friends think) but while I finish up exploring Madrid and then go off exploring the Greek Islands, I thought it might be a good opportunity to hand my blog over to you for a few weeks – fellow bloggers, Indiana Jo readers and, well, anyone who is looking for a platform for their story.
I’ve only posted a couple of guest posts in the past and they have all been from travel friends I’ve met on the road who had a great story I really wanted to share. So, this is a bit of an experiment for me, but hopefully a fun journey we can take together.
Guest posting…but for a limited time only
I’ve written hundreds of posts for this site and I have hundreds more I’ve still yet to tell, so I don’t intend to accept guest posts on an ongoing basis. In fact, I only have space for four or maybe six guest posts.
What am I looking for?
I’m looking for stories. I’m looking for tales of adventures – places you’ve been, food you’ve experienced, inspiration you’ve found and even trouble you might have met along the way. I’m looking to hear about YOU. And if you think you’re funny, that works, too.
I want first person accounts – you can write me, I, me, I, me, I, me as many times as you like. These guest posts aren’t a place for listicles or a generic write-up of the 10 must-see sights in Blahville.
I’d like original photography…but only if you have it – I get that not everyone is a whizz with a camera. So, I’d take a good story over a good set of pictures. But if you do have the pictures, BONUS.
Any destination will do – you don’t need to have spent months avoiding the rebels in a dangerous territory to merit a good story. You may have travelled one town over within your own country. Travel is travel.
And any travel style works – the same applies to your travel style. I might be a solo female traveller but whether you travel as a couple, a family or just at weekends (the only time you can steal from your full-time job) – travel is travel.
You don’t need to be a travel blogger – if you have a story you want to share, but don’t have a place to share it, this is for you!
But if you are a travel blogger, that’s okay too – it can be nice to get your words out on a different website and in front of a new set of readers. Plus, I’m always looking for new blogs to follow.
I need a minimum of 1,500 words – if you’ve been on my site before, you’ll know I write long reads. 3,000 words is pretty standard and I’ve been know to warble on for up to 5,000 words. Feel free to take as many words as you need to tell your story, but somewhere between 1,500 and 3,000 should be your goal.
100% original content – you’re creative enough to send me something original, right? I’m not interested in re-purposed content and as an ex-lawyer, I flat out won’t tolerate copied work…and I will check!
And absolutely no travel clichés – did you know that every time a travel cliché is typed, an angel loses its backpack? True story. So, no must-sees, hidden gems or the like.
What’s in it for you?
Not a great deal.
As with most guest posting, there’s no pay…so if you’re looking to boost your travel funds, I’m afraid you’ll have to search elsewhere.
However, if you’re looking for a place to tell your story or are a travel blogger looking to tap into a different audience, this is for you. IndianaJo.com currently has over 30,000 page views per month and I’ll be sharing your story with my (almost) 10,000 followers across social media..
You can include a short bio (up to 50 words) and include one link at the end of your post – to your existing blog, an instagram account or any other (appropriate!) platform you want to promote. Though this isn’t intended for commercial promotion of products so please don’t waste your time or mine.
Head over to my Contact page and drop me a quick line with the following information:
Subject Line: Please write Guest Post in the subject line
Who you are: A quick line on who you are with a link to your blog (if you have one).
Post summary: A summary up to 100 words about your proposed guest post.
Post outline: as long posts can be hard to read, they should be broken up with a minimum of three headings so please list the headings and a short note (couple of lines) on what you’ll cover under each heading.
Photographs: let me know if you have your own images available.
What about full posts? If you already have a complete post written, please send that over instead of a summary but don’t feel under pressure to write something complete if you don’t have it written already.
As I’m looking for a small number of posts, I’ll stop looking as soon as I’ve got what I need and will remove this page from the website. I hope to find what I’m looking for within one to two weeks so be quick if you’re interested.
I’m excited to hand this blog over to you guys for a few weeks.
Send me your best stories – I’m looking forward to reading them!
