For the longest time, the Middle East had a reputation as an unsafe destination for tourism thanks to the extensive media coverage of internal conflicts. However, even with some remaining areas of unrest, it’s still all too common for poeple to lump the 14 large and diverse countries that make up the Middle-East into one single ‘dangerous’ territory.
As someone who’s spent time in the Middle-East, especially as a solo female traveller, I can confidently tell you that there are many beautiful and fascinating places to visit in the Middle-East where you certainly won’t feel unsafe at all. When most people think about the Middle-East they’ll conjure up images of endless deserts broken up by grand mosques and colourful bazaars filled with the smell of exotic spices. And although this is certainly true of some parts of the region, there’s so much more to discover.
From the bright red sand and enormous canyons of the Wadi Rum in Jordan to the healing waters of the Dead Sea in Israel, the dramatic coastline of Oman to the unique biodiversity of Yemen’s Socotra Island, the Middle-East is filled with diverse landscapes and a multitude of natural wonders.
As well as the region’s natural beauty, there is also an abundance of man-made attractions in the Middle-East worth adding to any bucket list, including historic landmarks such as the ancient city of Petra in Jordan and the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt, plus modern marvels including Dubai’s towering Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world.
